Learn what information is in the Registry and be a sniper with your analysis

The book provides a detailed discussion on the structure of the registry, its keys and relevancy to digital forensics & incident response(DFIR). The author also focuses on presenting examples and use cases on how the reader can leverage information in the registry as part of an analysis. Discussion of tools is given and the tools presented are free and some are open source which you can modify if you understand the programming language they are written to fit your needs. The author dedicates a chapter on regripper a tool that he wrote to parse registry hives and serves as a mini manual. After reading the previous chapters, hopefully the reader will understand the flexibility of the tool and how one can expand functionality. Overall the author does a great job in presenting the information, although short (191 pages) the content is targeted at what can bring value to the reader/analyst. I recommend to all who work in the DFIR field or are starting to. A longer review will be posted on my blog and i will update this review in the future.

All about the action

The basic premise of the book is that Earth is only one of many, many worlds 'seeded' by an alien race which originated in another dimension. Eleven beings - no, twelve - were exiled because they had created the twelfth. The twelfth was the creature called Bane. Holo does an excellent job of beginning the book with action, threading his world-building in and around that action and slowly unfolding it.

bane of the deadBane of the Dead is pure Space Opera. Discard all your puny notions of the laws of physics, and just enjoy the almost cinematic descriptions of machines and men melded into seraphim, the protectors of humanity and their titanic clashes with the ironically bureaucratic Fallen. In a universe where not one, but two 'spare' planets have been set into orbit around Earth (and one leaves abruptly) without any mention of that mass affecting the Earth, it is not a surprise to learn of mental powers that can extend to... but that's a spoiler.

This isn't a story about the characters, who remain elusively aloof from the reader. Although they are well-enough described, I was never quite able to connect with them emotionally. The dialogue is lacking flavor, but that's not why you read books like this. This one is a fun tour de force of chaos sword battles, hand-to-hand Mecha combat, and the dead world hiding terrible secrets at the center of it all. If you enjoyed Saberhagen's Berserker series, this may appeal to you.

Gundam meets Neon Evangelion in this clash of titanic mecha. The overall story was strong and the fighting was intense. The ending left me wanting to see more of this expanded universe. The dangers are not over, but I fear they are only beginning for our heroes. Why not four stars? I wanted more character development and await the next book of this space opera. Till then...

This is the first book of Jacob's that I've read and it feels like a love letter to the mecha space genre. If you're a fan of anime and wonder what a novel written the same way would be like, this is the book. The world building has a nice touch where some anachronisms (like having a cook) are highlighted. Looking forward to finishing the third book in the Seraphim Revival series soon.

About the Author
Frank Harris (1855/56-1931) was a naturalized American author of British origin, editor, journalist and publisher. He immigrated to the United States in late 1869 and studied at the University of Kansas. Returning to England in 1882, Harris first came to general notice as the editor of a series of London papers including the Evening News, the Fortnightly Review and the Saturday Review. Harris returned to New York during World War I. From 1916 to 1922 he edited the U. S. edition of Pearson’s Magazine. In 1922 he traveled to Berlin to publish his best-known work, his autobiography My Life and Loves. Harris also wrote short stories and novels, two books on Shakespeare, a series of biographical sketches in five volumes under the title Contemporary Portraits and biographies of Oscar Wilde and George Bernard Shaw. Amongst his other works are Montes the Matador and Other Stories (1900), The Bomb (1908), The Man Shakespeare (1909) and A Mad Love (1920).

Fiction based on history -- superb!

This is the story of an immigrant who gets drawn into period (late 1800s) anarchy in the U.S.

Here, one reads about the heinous maltreatment of the immigrant labor force by the robber barons and other rapscallions. The narrator ultimately travels to Chicago where the maltreatment of these workers comes to a head when a bomb is thrown in The Haymarket Square, killing some (corrupt) policemen.

As one reads this excellent story, s/he is reminded of similar works such as "The Jungle" (Upton Sinclair), or, "The Black Flag: A Look Back at the Strange Case of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti" (Brian Jackson). However, "The Bomb" is, of course fiction, albeit based upon an actual historical event, and so it's a smoother read... a page-turner really.

The more subtle focal point of the book hits upon the core philosophy of anarchism all of which is shrewdly conveyed through riveting dialogue and suspenseful action.

Regarding the book edition, I acquired an old used library copy, published in hardcover (with a dustjacket) by The University of Chicago Press, in 1963. The work was originally published in 1909 by Mitchell Kennerley (New York), and was republished by the author in 1920. I am very pleased with both the readability and the binding of my edition.

Finally, in the introduction by John Dos Passos, we are told that the author, Frank Harris, was a fringe sort of fellow, and perhaps a bit of a scoundrel at times. But Harris has done a fine job with the book and I highly recommend it.

Finally, a readable, helpful book for high school students! A must read for parents.

Perfect timing! With my son entering his second year of high school I found this book to be a clear, concise set of guidelines for secondary and tertiary students. I've put it on his Kindle now and he seems pretty keen to read it. Indeed the best thing about this book is that it is very readable. It is engaging and relevant to parents and students alike.If you are a student who wants to make the best use of your study time, read this book. If you are a parent who wants to help your child organize their time, read this book.

Great book for students planning on entering university

The book is excellent. It provides tips and tricks to use your study time more efficiently, reduce it by getting rid of counter-productive habits, and even get a better hang or the study subject. Angela systematically approaches the matter, and provides solid argumentation for her claims.
This book is more relevant to students but is a great read for parents too. It is the perfect read if you are/have children in high school and plan on entering a university. Last but not least, Angela has a clean and articulate writing style, not going into formalities, which makes the book fun and easy to read.

I recently realized that in today’s high competition world, going to class without a proper strategy wont work anymore. One has to keep up to date with these techniques that allow for more efficient use of time and various learning techniques. This book covers so much ground and I only wish I knew some of these things on studying before. It is very detailed with plenty of great tips for all aspects of studying, going to class, usin internet, time management etc. A very valuable guide overall.

The Lucado series is always a pleasure to read. He has a wonderful knack for explaining the life lessons of the Bible. Good for novice bible study but still containing an interesting gem for the those with more bible study experience under their belt. The seller was prompt in fulfilling the order and the book is in excellent condition.

Mildly Disappointed

Max Lucado is one of the great Christian wordsmiths of the era, which is part of why I am disappointed with this book. - It doesn't have many words by Max. "Life Lessons," is a Bible study, with 8 to 12 questions for each chapter of Ruth and Esther. The content of the book is 10% Bible Study questions (which are good questions, by the way), 10% "Inspirational Words" from authors like Toni Campolo and Joe Stowell, and 80% the NCV and NKJV texts of Ruth and Esther. I own NCV and NKJV Bibles, so I would have preferred to pay $4.95 for Max's Bible Study and omitted the rest.

If you're looking for a simple Bible study, this might be a good one for you. It's nicely laid out and easy to follow. If you're looking for some background and content on the books of Ruth and Esther, you'll want to buy a different book.

About the Author
JOEL S. GOLDSMITH (1892-1964), a monumental teacher of practical mysticism, devoted most of his life to the discovery and teaching of spiritual principles which he founded and called The Infinite Way. After the publication of his seminal book, The Infinite Way, in 1947, Joel traveled throughout the world as a teacher and a healer. Although Goldsmith's message was neither organized nor advertised, students of The Infinite Way increased in numbers. A good place to start

A very simple and easy introduction to doing spiritual assessment. It is especially geared towards chaplains in clinical settings, but equally usefull for anyone who does spiritual assessment on a regular basis. Fitchett summarizes the previous literature very well, and is well documented. Although his 7X7 system seemed a bit unwieldy for my purposes, I found it highly adaptable.

On the downside, the book lacks a bibliography, which is why I gave it only 4 stars.
