About the Author

Robert L. Heath, professor emeritus of communication at the University of Houston, is an internationally recognized authority on public relations, crisis communication, issues management, risk communication, and business-to-business communication. He has published many award-winning books, including The SAGE Handbook of Public Relations (2010), Handbook of Risk and Crisis Communication (2009), Strategic Issues Management (2nd ed., 2009), Rhetorical and Critical Approaches to Public Relations II (2009), and Terrorism: Communication and Rhetorical Perspectives (2008).

Heath has 3 decades' experience in corporate communication and positioning research. He has conducted research on risks related to various hazards, including those associated with chemical manufacturing and community right-to-know―key themes in community relations. In addition, he has published more than 100 chapters and articles and serves on the editorial and reviewer panels of several premier academic journals. He has received many honors from public relations professionals and academic associations and has lectured nationally and internationally on a wide array of topics.

W. Timothy Coombs (PhD, Public Affairs and Issues Management, Purdue University) is a professor in the Nicholson School of Communication at the University of Central Florida. His books include Applied Crisis Communication and Crisis Management: Cases and Exercises, Code Red in the Boardroom,and, with Sherry Holladay, Managing Corporate Social Responsibility, PR Strategy and Application, and The Handbook of Crisis Communication.  His crisis communication research was awarded the 2002 Jackson, Jackson & Wagner Behavioral Science Prize from the Public Relations Society of America. Dr. Coombs has published more than 40 research articles, most focusing on crisis communication, as well as more than 30 book chapters on the subject. He has worked with consulting firms in the U.S. and Europe on ways to improve crisis communication efforts for their clients, and has been invited by governments and businesses around the world to present his ideas and insights into crisis communication.

Useful but wordy
By gamingjunkie
This was a required text book for my PR class and while it was useful for the class I felt the overall organization of the text was lacking. Reading felt like I was meandering through game trails in the woods instead of taking the more direct path and honestly searching in the text for definitions was at time more effort than it was worth. I did enjoy the different bits of trivia in the book, but I would not recommend this book to others.

this book may be a good starting point

For someone with very little investment experience, this book may be a good starting point. The book does nothing more and nothing less than offering the audience a quick and dirty synopsis of finance and investment theories and concepts. It appears to me that this book is more of a marketing tool that the author hands out to the attendees at his "Investment seminar" than a real investment reference.

Save your money and buy old investment book published by the CFA Institute or old graduate level finance college textbooks covering Finance and Investment. You may have to spend more time to grasp the concepts but you are better off that way.

Fantastic Investing Framework!

In the most powerful section of his book, Lukas starts by presenting his method “MECOM.” If you are new to investing, I would read the book just for that section alone! What it does is guide you through the confusing world of investing. This is a checklist and a framework of just 5 factors you should analyze when digging into picking stocks:

1. Moat. Does your company have a sustainable competitive advantage that can ensure profitability in the long run?
2. Earnings. Don’t just look at the bottom line of the income statement. Lukas teaches you how to find the real earnings of a company that you can base your valuation on.
3. Catalyst. The book neatly categorizes catalysts that can increase the stock price of your picks dramatically. As time is of the essence in all investing, the timing of these catalysts is very important.
4. Obligations (debt). Don’t miss out on reading the balance sheet. Having too much debt makes things go faster, but if you don’t have any brakes on your car you are headed for trouble.
5. Management. Basically, these people are acting on behalf of you – but you are the boss. Lukas takes you through the difficult task of determining the quality of management.

Good Start - And Looking Forward To More!

From what I can tell this is Lukas' first book - and I'm hoping he will be back with more in the years ahead!

I've read dozens of books on value investing, which naturally leads to some overlap when the topic in its entirety (margin of safety, moats, etc) is addressed in a few hundred pages. Lukas does a good job of being unique in his approach: he takes readers from the ground floor, discussing his interesting personal background and growth as an investor, all the way to real life examples of how he approaches equity valuation. He shows exactly how he values a business; even better, Lukas uses present day examples that we're all familiar with, which keeps things interesting. The combination makes for a book that keeps your attention.

As I told Lukas when I finished reading "Value Investing: A Value Investor's Journey Through The Unknown...", I wish I stumbled across a book like this when I first started investing! I'm hoping this book continues to evolve over time in new versions as Lukas continues to grow as an investor.

Sacred Images of a Divine One resurrected for our times

This book brings delight to those of us that can not get enough of the sacred imagery that represents the Ancient Egyptian deity Set.

Containing well executed line drawings of many images hitherto lost or forgotten to time, the authoress has compiled a feast of both pictorial and literal information that traces Set’s iconography through the ancient age.

Both scholarly and an art piece in its own right, each chapter has its own collection of reference notes revealing the sources from which the authoress has drawn. The book concludes with a meaningful discussion of the deity’s re-emergence today, including more literal quotes and her own wonderful poetry.

Joan Lansberry – surely a High Priestess of the God then, and probably now also – has done Him honour with this tome that surely heralds His remanifestation into our modern aeon. The book has already inspired new art works with THIS artist.

I just purchased this book recently and am very pleased with its contents! I enjoy the many fine illustrations combined with an intelligent format and chronological explanation! This book is extremely well researched. I have enjoyed the book so much I have had difficulty putting it down! The reader will gain enormous insight into the Egyptian God: Set and His changing roles and Deific Faces within the ancient Egyptian culture.The author covers Set from His earliest images progrssively through the 21st Dynasty and beyond!

One of a Kind

Ms. Lansberry's study of this misunderstood diety also serves as a unique introduction to Egyptian history and mythology. While some familiarity with the subject matter is helpful, it is not needed. You will learn about hierogylphics, art, architecture, the dynasties and the important rulers. Joan does this by examining various artificats from different periods of Egyptian culture. An enormous amount of research and effort went into this book; I highly recommend it to art history students for this reason. Those planning to visit the Land of the Pharaohs will find Images of Set helpful. You will appreciate what you see and have a few destinations added to your itinerary. While it is accessible to amateurs, there is a lot of information here. Reading it twice is a good idea; reading a cursory overview of Egyptian history may be a better one. It is a specialist text but it imparts a great deal of general knowledge.
I also like the way she arranged her bibliography. Rather than overwhelming the reader with cited sources at the end of the text, she includes them at the end of each chapter. This is perfect if you plan to do further research on any of the topics covered.

Where's the photos?

I prefer a cookbook with photos of the food. It helps me to judge what it is supposed to look like. There's hardly any photos in this cookbook. Sorry, Rachael, I love you but not so much this cookbook.

FINALLY!! Rachel has made an amazing cookbook again!

These recipes are Italian inspired creations that if you are Italian, you appreciate her list of ingredients and if you aren't Italian, this will make you understand how typical Italian fare is created. Some of recipes are from her previous books with some new twists (Pasta con Cacio e Pepe for one) but I appreciate the revamp. I like how the sections are broken out so it is easy to peruse all the pastas and soups without flipping around the book. Some of her ingredients are costly and hard to find, but for foodies, that is a perk and she certainly gives substitutions. I have had this book less than 24 hours and already have 5 meals planned out. I also like her desserts section; simple traditional Italian items that many true Italian fans know and love. Brava Rachel!

I love Italian food! And usually on Sundays, I'll put more effort into our supper (during the week we tend to just throw things together). That's why this book caught my eye.

The book starts with an intro about the author growing up Italian and what it means to her.

The chapters are:

* Brunch - including Ratatouille Frittata, Flatbread Pizzas with Greens, Ricotta and Eggs and Croque-Madame Italian-style
* Starters, salads and small bites - including Family-size Caesar, Italian Wings and Mozzarella in Carrozza with Ham
* Soups - including Italian-style Gazpacho, Ministra and White Zuppa Di Pesce
* Pizza, calzones and focaccia - including Naples Pizza Sauce, Focaccia and Hot Soppresata Pizza
* Pasta, gnocchi, polenta and their sauces - including Gnocchi, Walnut Orange Sauce and Short Rib Ragu
* Risotto and grains - including Rosemary and Roasted Garlic Wild Rice Blend, Drunken Risotto and Quinoa and * Vegetable Stuffed Peppers

One of America's foremost poets and feminist theorists collect here some of her most important early prose writings. On Lies, Secrets, and Silence is an extraordinary sort of travel diary, documenting Adrienne Rich's journeys to the frontier and into the interior. It traces the development of one individual consciousness, 'playing over such issues as motherhood, racism, history, poetry, the uses of scholarship, the politics of language.' Rich has written a headnote for each essay, briefly discussing the circumstances of its writing.

About the Author
Widely read, widely anthologized, widely interviewed, and widely taught, Adrienne Rich (1929–2012) was for decades among the most influential writers of the feminist movement and one of the best-known American public intellectuals. She wrote two dozen volumes of poetry and more than a half-dozen of prose. Her constellation of honors includes a National Book Award for poetry for Tonight, No Poetry Will Serve, a MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant in 1994, and a National Book Award for poetry in 1974 for Diving Into the Wreck. That volume, published in 1973, is considered her masterwork. Ms. Rich’s other volumes of poetry include The Dream of a Common Language, A Wild Patience Has Taken Me This Far, An Atlas of the Difficult World, The School Among the Ruins, and Telephone Ringing in the Labyrinth. Her prose includes the essay collections On Lies, Secrets, and Silence; Blood, Bread, and Poetry; an influential essay, “Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Existence,” and the nonfiction book Of Woman Born, which examines the institution of motherhood as a socio-historic construct. In 2006, Rich was awarded the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters by the National Book Foundation. In 2010, she was honored with The Griffin Trust for Excellence in Poetry's Lifetime Recognition Award.

Let's hear it for TRUTH!

Adrienne Rich is a thinker, and yeah, the reader who said this book was outdated is probably right about that. Thinking IS pretty outdated these days - as are truth and authenticity. Although this book is written from a feminist perspective, Rich's commentary on the destructive aspects of lies, secrets and silence applies to all of humanity.

more relevant today than ever

As I have educated myself in adulthood, first as an undergraduate, then in time, two MA degrees, one in theology, this book has named realities I see in women's lives with greater nuance than anyone else I read. Her prose and her poetry is very fine and insightful. The reader who gave it one star probably couldn't get his (?her) head around the references to what it's like to be a lesbian and double discriminated against--and hated by the dominant culture. I'm straight but not narrow. If we are going to progress as a species we need to be able to stretch our minds and hearts to understand the social location of the writer. That is why professors require books like this. Once your mind is stretched it never goes back to the tight little rubber band it once was. It can stretch around more books.

feminism of its time

Rich's work remains thoughtful and provoking even now. The changing feminist consciousness revealed by her collected essays is a fascinating portrait of a growth over time. This book deserves far more than one star.
