She’s even friends with the local vet who is always armed with tranquilizers. But her fragile grip on the situation can’t last. Not when newcomer Emerson moves into Harper’s small town and sets the wolf free. Now Harper must figure out what the wolf wants, and stop it before she ends up with more blood on her teeth.

Fourth time through - and it keeps getting better
By Amazon Customer
I just finished reading Pure of Heart... for the fourth time. Of course, it's the first time in the absolutely finished form. It took a lot longer this time than I expected. I had to stop several times when I got so upset at a character I started shouting at the book (like they could hear me). That happens to me with some of my favorite books, and it happened again here. But I'm finally done and finally putting up a review.
Short version (TL:DR): This is a wonderful book, Harper is funny and sarcastic, Emerson is smart and interesting, everyone is real and well developed. It's well plotted, moves along at the right pace and is an enjoyable read.
Now confession time: I know the author. I'm in her critique group. The first time I read this it wasn't as good. Lots of potential, but there were some problems. Second time I read it I was a beta reader (if you don't know, that's someone who reads a finished draft for an author and gives them feedback). I read the whole thing in 48 hours, staying up until 3am the first night and 1am the second to finish. Yes, I was tired at work the next day, but it was worth it. It was much better than the critique group had seen. Things we'd pointed out were fixed, other things improved and it was a smooth read. But there was a problem with the ending. I read some changes to the ending as she worked on it but I didn't read the whole thing again until it had returned from the editor and was formatted for publication. That was tough. More improvements had been made, which made it a good read, but my job at that point was to look for formatting errors. Which is hard when you are enjoying the book and rolling along. But I found a few, and we got them fixed.
And then came the big release. The book came out and I got a copy and... I didn't read it immediately. Sure I was busy, but that's not what held me up. Not sure what it was, but it took me several weeks before I started. Maybe I wanted to get some distance from the last read. It is so clean and so engaging now. I got to read it strictly for pleasure, and that's what I got. I'm still a little high from the ending, which is sweet, satisfying, and hopeful. There's plenty of potential for the series contained just in the last twenty pages. This is the origin story, now we get to build on that.
So that's my opinion, let me tell you some facts about the book (avoiding spoilers at all costs): It's written in third person with two major characters carrying the point of view. Harper is the first (although there is a prologue from her Uncle's point of view) and she's a bit of a mess. She's also smart, funny, witty, and deeply sarcastic. She's got some personal problems, and she's trying to deal with them, but they are a bit overwhelming. The biggest one: she's a werewolf, and there aren't any other werewolves around in the tiny town of Fincher, Montana to tell her how that works. Our other main character is Emerson. She's cute, smart, with rich parents, and trying desperately to be independent. She's moved to this tiny little town to take over her grandparent's bookstore now that they've died. When she and Harper meet, things get... complicated. Both of them are deep characters, with layers to their personalities and well thought out backgrounds.
The people they meet and interact with are just as interesting. Grady, Harper's uncle, caring for her after her parents died. Cooper, her cousin, in that awkward stage between childhood and adolescence. AJ, the local vet, one of the few who knows Harper's secret. Logan, Harper's best friend, feeling their relationship change as they grow into their adult roles in life. Oscar, Emerson's brother, helping get her settled and trying to protect her. Holt, the local playboy, thinking he knows what every girl wants and it's him.
I can't say much about the plot without giving things away, but I enjoyed it. It sucked me in and kept me reading. I guess that's the best recommendation I can give. I liked it. It kept me reading.

Awesome Read
By Rachel S
This is a fantastic debut novel by a talented author. I enjoy supernatural novels and urban fantasy and Pure of Heart definitely satisfied both cravings.
The small Alaskan town of Fincher is the perfect backdrop for a werewolf love story. Harper (our neighborhood werewolf) and Emerson (our resident book nerd) and their cohort of friends and family are well-developed; each new chapter brought a new revelation that kept me interested and curious to see what came next. The dialogue, especially between our werewolf and her veterinarian, was snappy and fun and made me laugh out loud more than once on the airplane. The story moved along at a good pace, introducing new problems for our poor, unsuspecting protagonists that led to a climax that was intense and heart-rending (I got something in my eye, I wasn't crying). The story's conclusion promised a sequel that would answer lingering questions and bring on even more delightful conflict. Excited for book two!

Werewolf. Girlfriend.
By Missy
Werewolf girlfriend. And if that doesn't grab you, then you're weird. Because werewolf girlfriend. The characters, despite having a few supernatural tendencies, feel like real people which is a nice change from the one-dimensional characters you usually see in this genre. The humor was nice and sarcastic, just the way I like it, and Emerson is my favorite. Also, Harper and I know what's up about horses. We know. 10/10, would read again.
